DIY: Wedding Signs

Wedding signs have been a trend for a couple of years now, with total justification – they’re super cool and actually have a purpose! The way in which they work is, the bride and groom use these signs to inform their guests of things like: running times, orders of the day, venue directions and so on. Here on Emporella, we love a good DIY project so what better to show you than these rustic wooden signs.

Firstly, take a look at your wedding style and see if this type of decor would fit. If you’ve answered yes, then you’re ready choose how you’re going to present them. You are in control of what colours you use, the typography, and the text. Here are a few examples that you can customise and make your own:

There are many different techniques we’ve found for these kinda of DIYs, but here’s one we’ve tried and tested in one of our YouTube videos before: printing out your chosen font on your computer and copying the text on to your chosen sign (wooden, chalkboard, card, fabric.) Once you have your printed font, flip it over to the side with no text on and colour over the back with a pencil or chalk, this will allow the text to transfer easier. Using a pencil, press down firmly when tracing over the text so that it is visible on your sign – this is an essential part of the process. Decide on a colour for your text, plain white seems to be popular, or you could opt for a rainbow effect, black, or the colour scheme of your wedding it really is up to you!

Didn’t understand that? Well is ok because Something Turquoise has put together this picture guide and step-by-step on their website for you to follow!

Another DIY sign that are becoming very popular are actual signs either just outside the venue or inside to let people know how to get to the ceremony and the reception. These are such a lovely idea, they are so cute. It helps people locate the venue but it also gets your guests excited as they know its nearly wedding time!

These signs are so easy to make. All you need is a few bits and bobs and they’re not very expensive at all.  Just get one piece of wood for every sign you want on it (this is completely up to you, you can have as many as you want) and then one longer piece of wood that would be your base. Then you just need a stencil with the alphabet on and some white paint. Work out what you want each piece of wood to say on it and start to stencil out the letters with a pencil. Once you have completed all of your letters, paint over in white and then nail all of the individual pieces of wood to the base in the correct order, and then thats it, your sign is complete.

Still struggling to imagine it? Have a look at this image. This is a lovely example.

The next bit of DIY you can do on your wedding involves photographs. This does not mean that you do not need a photographer. What this means is that you can set up an area in your reception with a camera to print images instantly. Here your guests can take images of themselves having a great time at your wedding and can put it in a book. Like the books that go round a people sign them with a nice congratulations message, except it will have pictures as well. This does not cost a lot and would be very nice to look back on.
