The Fairytale Story of James and Ashley Burke’s Real Wedding!

Here at Emporella we are very happy to introduce the beautiful, real bride, Ashley who married her handsome groom James in November last year. We are grateful to the couple who have shared every single little detail of their big day and the lead up to the wedding for this fabulous blog post. This wedding is truly something straight out of a fairytale.

Ashley was acting in an Amish musical in Lancaster, PA and had just gotten out of a 3 year relationship. Ashley was really down about the whole situation so her cast mates thought it would be fun to dare her to make an online profile on OK Cupid. Ashley was moving to New York City soon, so thought why not make friends ahead of time, plus she caved to peer pressure! So like most couples nowadays – they met online!

James had been dating for over 3 years and had not found anyone he truly had that spark with. The very week that him and Ashley met he had told his mum, he was going to try messaging one more girl and if that didn’t work he would delete his OK Cupid account.

The couple chatted for a week, texted for another week, skyped for a further two, until 5am everyday and then when Ashley final got a break in her show schedule she went to the big city for their first ever date. Ashley said it was a ‘super date’ like 3 dates in one. He even asked her to be his girlfriend that same day. They were the perfect match! James then went on to propose to Ashley in their apartment on Sunday 14th June, 2015 – just them in their PJ’s while doing the dishes, it was so special!

The amazing bride, Ashley and her handsome groom James married at the end of last year, the 25th November 2016 at Villa Russo, Queen, NY. The special day was captured by the talented Nick Urteaga and his assistant Gina Polermo, their talent and style really shine through the wedding photographs.

Villa Russo was the perfect venue to host their special day due to it’s romantic French, Italian Country theme. The Italian stonework and blush tones of the granite made Ashley want something clean and modern but also more of a non-holiday pre-winter feel. The stormy weather of Autumn and Winter prior to the snowy season was their inspiration for their colour palette, which was navy blue, stormy grey and blush pink. Reminding them of what it is like after a late fall rainstorm right before sunset with half of the sky in clouds and half of the sky filled with glowing pink sunset. Ashley wanted everyone to feel at home but also feel as if they were spending a day in a fairytale. The venue was so perfect and even more perfect with the draped canopy ceiling in the ballroom – truly magical! The mother of the bride handmade all the centrepieces, all individually unique, incorporated with vintage candles, silver trays and platters, brooches from antique stores and silk florals that matched the exact flowers in the bride’s bouquet. The day was also scented with almond vanilla, with each flower bouquet accordingly scented – every little detailed mattered. The Villa Russo doesn’t need much decorating so the opted for off white linens and chair covers with matching sashes to keep everything clean. To keep with the theme the bride made ever bit of the wedding stationary, right down to the menu and place cards. Their table numbers were an array of frames embedded with beads, pearls, and brocade looking metals and the tables were also finished with rose gold runners. Finally, along with all the final touches to the wedding they had some adorable wedding favours, little pink boxes adorned with stickers made by Ashley and a navy blue bow and hiding inside was two silver Hershey kisses, “Hugs and Kisses from the Mr and Mrs” an amazing idea by the mother of the groom.

Complimenting the perfect day was the outfits, both the brides and the grooms. Ashley wore a stunning blush pink Sophia Tolli found in RK Bridal, in Manhattan. It was an A-Line tulle gown with delicate flower embroidery that cascaded down the bodice, you can just see how amazing it is in her pictures – so breath-taking! The bride customised her straps to be a Bardot neckline and accented with a simple french manicure and Givenchy rose gold jewellery.

The handsome groom, James, purchased a navy Michael Kors tuxedo from Quails in Queens, NY which he paired with a blush pink tie from a seller on Etsy and black shoes – a perfect match to the bride.

The couple were joined by 150 guests including 6 groomsmen, 6 bridesmaids and a flower girl. All of the bridesmaids purchased and picked their own dresses, as long as they were within the couples color scheme, Ashley wanted them the feel great because for many of them, it was their first time ever even being to NYC.  They all looked and felt like a million bucks and no one spent over 60$ on their dress and you can see how well they chose in the pictures – 6 stunning bridesmaids! Furthermore, the groomsmen all wore grey suits with matching socks from Ralph Lauren. A sharkskin suit and a crisp white shirt, and each groomsman had either a navy or graphite tie.

Floral by G Bella were gracious enough to provide the amazing floral bouquets. The bride included all of her favourite flowers in all the bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages so they matched the colour scheme perfectly. Her bouquet even including her sorority flower along with white carnations, blush and cream garden roses, baby’s breath and peach pink roses, hand ties with an ivory ribbon. So gorgeous and unique. For the bridesmaids she want something a little cleaner/simpler as they all had different dresses, going for simple white carnation bunches and filled in with baby’s breath, hand tied also with ivory ribbons. The groomsmen also had a single bunch of baby’s breath, tied off with coordinating ribbons to their ties and James had a single cream garden rose and baby’s breath.  It all tied together so perfectly with all of the silks in both the venue and the centrepieces.

The evening do was a spectacular event with a great DJ, also a fellow Queens man.  Anthony Gelo with Good Times Productions was absolutely phenomenal! They were able to choose their entire playlist online through his database program and were able to meet him in person twice and go over every detail including introductions and the flow of the evening. He was all inclusive and truly made their night such an unforgettable party for everyone.

Last but not least the bride wanted to thank her bridal party so she handmade them each a hanger with their name on it and also gifted them robes in which the bride’s grandmother monogrammed all of their initials onto. They each also got a goodie bag that the bride also DIYed and finally paid for all of their hair and nails.  It was the least she felt she could do when some of them traveled over 800 miles to stand up with her plus they have also given up their Thanksgivings with their families to witness Ashley and Jame’s growing larger. Finally James gifted his groomsmen with personalized leather wallets and the Best Man provided cigars.

The bride and groom got married just over 9 months ago and have had so much fun since. Their wedding day was so special and one to really remember. The couple cannot thank everyone enough for making it so amazing and memorable.

Here are a few words from the bride herself – “I cannot even begin to thank everyone that helped make our day so special.  I literally had this thing planned in two weeks because I love planning events and we had the mentality upfront that we as bride and groom were throwing a party for our guests.  We wanted to be every bit hospitable that we could and we believe when you see our pictures that the proof is in the film.  Everyone had an absolute blast and there wasn’t one thing I could say went wrong about the night.  My mom is such an amazing woman and as my ride or die I couldn’t have done it without her.  She was the perfect mix of trusting me and my design choices and truly a partner in crime to make sure everything happened how I wanted it to.  My bridal party were absolute angels and came from all over the country for me and I could not be more blessed.  I am forever grateful for that night and so wish I could do it again- 5 more times!  Special shout out to my Maids of Honour Katie and Laura for throwing me such a classy and fun NYC Bachelorette party and for having my back in any time of need.  I can’t wait to repay the favour!”
