“Steve finally proposed in December after nearly 10 years together!” Quotes Leigh, excitedly.
The couple didn’t want a long engagement or a big white wedding as the pair had both been previously married. The plan to become husband and wife was simple with the least amount of fuss and as soon as possible. After hours and hours of discussions they finally came to a decision: just the two of them would go to York Registry office but then hold a big party for friends and family a few days later.
Plans started falling into place and the pair saved the date: Wednesday 29th March 2017 (16 weeks after Steve proposed). The party was booked at The Grange, Airmyn on Saturday 1st April – It was no joke!
“Our wedding day in York was far more amazing than I could have imagined” Leigh states, “As we got nearer the day we decided to take a couple of friends with us to act as witnesses, as York Registry office had warned us that finding witnesses on the day could be quite stressful”. So on the morning of the wedding, the group set off on their travels to York. The couple had booked in to The Grand Hotel for 2 nights, so had planned to get ready there and then walk to the registry office…or so that’s what Leigh thought!
“When we came walking out of the hotel, there was a horse & carriage waiting for me! Steve had organised this and managed to keep it a complete surprise. I felt like a princess traveling through the streets of York” Says our blushing bride. The ceremony was lovely, informal and funny.
The celebrations began with champagne at The Biltmore Champagne bar, before the bride changed into an evening dress and headed for a meal at Delrios Italian restaurant. “We had a lovely few days in York before heading home for our party” Leigh tells us.
The Marquee looked amazing when we arrived, It soon filled up with all our family and friends and we danced the night away.
The choices that the couples had made suited them perfectly. The intimacy of the actual marriage ceremony and then the party with their family and friends gave the married duo the best of both worlds. The bride told us that she wouldn’t change a thing.
Leigh comments on her first dance as she states, “when it came to our first dance, we started slow dancing to ‘our’ song (Snow Patrol- Chasing Cars) before the music abruptly stopped, our mash up came on and we were joined by our flash mob dancing to classic party songs such as MC Hammer: Can’t Touch This, Micheal Jackson: Thriller, Beyonce: Single Ladies and Psy: Gangnam Style! This was a total surprise to everyone, except the flash mob gang!”
Real perspectives on real weddings are what make Emporella proud of what we do.
